When we first wanted to carry out Tenant Led Inspections we applied for a tenant participation grant from what was then Communities Scotland. We used this money to fund our first inspection and to create our guide. Drawing on our experience of conducting a tenant led inspection tenants in Stirling have created a guide to tenant led inspections for use by other groups. It can also be used as an advertising tool to promote the idea of tenant inspections to other tenants who may wish to be involved in the future. Our guide explains the tenant led inspection process from start to finish in plain English. It is in a very user-friendly format showing how to do an inspection step by step. Anyone new to Tenant Led Inspections will be able to carry one out using out guide. We have now completed several inspections using the same process as outlined in our handbook. This process has worked well for us so far and the inspections have proven to be a good way for tenants to influence Council Policies on housing services. We hope to continue doing them and hope that other groups will use our guide to help them to inspect their own landlords services. you can view the guide by clicking the link below.
Stirling Tenants Assembly's Award Winning Guide to Tenant Led Inspections.
We submitted our guide as an entry into the Tenant Participation Advisory Service's Good Practice in Tenant Participation awards in 2007. Philomena and Mary went to Edinburgh to give a presentation to the judging panel and were absolutely delighted when they found out we had won. The award was presented to Stirling Council at a civic reception with the Provost and is on display in the council's buildings so that anyone can see it.
